Located at the Wildflower & Honey Farm just out of Toodyay in the picturesque Avon Valley, Colin Fleay is a third generation apiarist, having lived in Toodyay all of his life. He has been producing his own honey for 30 years and employs Harold to help run the apiary.

Colin and his partner Ruth run Bee Happy® Apiaries & Candle Co. from the Wildflower & Honey Farm in Toodyay, Western Australia, and have a total of 400 commercial hives and 100 nucleus hives where we breed our Rottnest Island mated breeder Queen bees and build up our bee stock.

As the bees and the business are migratory, Colin travels with his bees to various locations around Western Australia between Lancelin and Boddington, following the wildflower seasons. The honey variety and quantity is determined by the available flora and climate conditions.

Bee Happy® honey, pollen and beeswax is extracted traditionally onsite and then processed in our mobile cold press, before being packaged directly into our pots.

When the season changes and the flower supply is exhausted, the bees are ready to be moved on to a new location. Colin waits until all the bees have returned to the hives that night, covers and packs all the hives onto his truck and drives them to their new location. The bees wake in the morning in their new bushland setting and begin collecting from the surrounding flowers to create their next batch of delicious honey.

Average Yearly Cycle

Bee Happy® bees begin the winter months amongst the coastal sandplain at the back of the Pinnacles in Badjingarra National Park, near Cervantes.

They migrate towards Lancelin in spring to follow the wildflower honey flow, then head down to Jarrahdale and Boddington for collection from native flowering Jarrah eucalyptus trees up until January.

In January and February they move back up the Scarp in search of Redgum flowers, and move east in March and April towards Calingiri, north of Toodyay where they collect pollen from the Whitegum and Wandoo eucalyptus flowers.
