Jarrah Honey

Jarrah honey is produced by bees collecting nectar from flowers of the Jarrah tree (eucalyptus marginata). This honey is acclaimed for its unique taste and healing properties. The honey is dark and thick with a smooth caramel taste.

Jarrah honey has an extremely high microbial activity as compared with other leading honey’s.
This makes Jarrah nature’s alternative to antibiotics. Jarrah is used on wounds to clean infections and as a result is known in Western Australia as the world’s ‘Healing Honey’. When lightly applied to sun burns Jarrah has been proven to relieve pain and quicken the recovery process. Jarrah also helps the stomach to fight bacteria and hence can be used to treat stomach problems and even bad breath.

Hydrogen Peroxide as Active Compound
Unlike Manuka honey (NZ) Jarrah honey contains hydrogen peroxide compounds that creates a winning combination of delicious sweetness, antimicrobial effectiveness and an infinite shelf life. This compound, when applied to the face gives a lightening effect.

Low Glycaemic & Low Glucose
Low Glycaemic foods are known to reduce insulin response in the body and improve the blood cholesterol level, this is particularly important as one gets older. Low glucose foods are mildly sweet and gives Jarrah honey an infinite shelf life. This means that Jarrah will never crystallize even after thousands of years.

High Fructose
Fructose is absorbed more slowly and evenly than glucose, this means that it is perfect for endurance training and diabetics. There is even evidence by the creators of the Hibernation Diet – Mike and Stuart McInnes that foods with a high fructose content such as Jarrah help to burn fat while you sleep while also increasing stamina.

High in Anti Oxidants
Due to its high anti oxidant levels Jarrah supports skin cell renewal, stimulates collagen and elastin production, proteins for wrinkle smoothing, collagen building, acne fighting. According to the National Cancer Institute of Australia foods with high antioxidant levels, fight free radicals that attack healthy cells & fight acne. Thus Jarrah’s anti oxidant levels are also arguably reduces the risk of cancer developing.

Disease Free
Western Australia protects its state forests and vigorously enforces strict quarantine controls for apiary products that are brought from overseas or interstate. This is the primary reason why Western Australia is the only place in the world that is free from pests and diseases and hence this means that no insecticide or pesticide is used on the hives.

TA Level?
Honey’s anti-microbial quality is measured by the term “Total Activity (TA)” The higher the Total activity (TA) the more active its antimicrobial strength. The anti-bacterial activity of the honey is derived via natural enzymes in the honey. Honey with a Total Activity of 15+ can be used to treat wounds, burns and skin infections becoming increasingly effective as the TA level increases.

Honey from the Western Australian Jarrah Tree (Eucalyptus marginata) has been thoroughly researched by the Department of Agriculture And Food Research Western Australia.

The results show that Jarrah honey has special antimicrobial properties, measured in scientific laboratories achieving particularly high readings.
